Taylor Wholesale's Christmas Open House was a great success!

On Tuesday October 10, Taylor wholesale hosted their annual Holiday open house. The guests arrived to a photo op that has become a Taylor tradition. Everyone mingled inside and reacquainted themselves with floral family and friends. The traditional toast of adult beverages included a great selection of wines, beers and delicious frozen fruit margaritas along with soft drinks and water. The guests mingled and admired the beautiful new products and decorated trees in the showroom. Kudos to Scott Marasckin and the Taylor staff for a great job preparing the decorations for the open House.

Outside the venue, there were tables set up and decorated with fresh Christmas greenery and candles which are available for pre-book at Taylor. Sound was provided by Dj Alex T of the Groove Brothers, and guests enjoyed festive music and even a few Christmas tunes while a sumptuous dinner was served. The event was catered by Texas Roadhouse and featured amazing grilled steaks, their signature decadent mashed potatoes and the most divine green beans smothered in bacon and onions. Dessert was a selection of delectable brownies in several different flavors. The food truly was amazing. Keith Taylor sure knows how to spoil his guests!

The featured designer for the evening was none other than Tom Bowling AIFD who was sponsored by Syndicate sales. Tom started with fall and Thanksgiving inspirations and as the night progressed, wowed the crowd with some beautiful and innovative Christmas designs that featured great ideas sure to increase your bottom line this holiday season. Mr. Bowling is a gifted speaker and held the audience in the palm of his hand as he demonstrated tips and techniques on product usage and how to give your clients more bang for their buck. After the programs, the chances to win raffle provided some lucky guests with beautiful designs to take home and examine up close

Keith Taylor partnered with the Allied Florist of Houston again this year and has made the program an Allied membership drive with the door proceeds benefitting our own Houston Allied. Words cannot express how thankful we are for his generosity. The open house was an absolute success, and everyone left inspired and ready to take on the holidays.

On behalf of the Allied board of directors we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Keith Taylor and the entire staff at Taylor Wholesale for always going above and beyond to ensure a wonderful evening. Thank you also to Tom Bowling AIFD for his talents and informative program. Most of all a great big THANK YOU to the members and guests who attend these events. Let us continue to support and grow our ranks. Don’t forget to Join us Tuesday November 14 at Greenleaf wholesale for the Houston Top Designer competition at our November Allied meeting . Ken Senter will be defending his title along with some great new competitors. Make your reservations now!!

Joy in Jesus Ministry

I am so proud of our members, I had the chance to see a couple of them in action when Eileen Collins the President of SAFD headed a donation drop for a total of 2000 families effected by Hurricane Harvey in the Houston area. All donations were from the people of Los Angeles spearheaded by Dr. Mabel John from Joy In Jesus Ministries.

Upon my arrival I saw Eileen and her daughter, Ilissa Collins, (cover photo) working with someone who was there to collect some of the donations and two men, Don McCray and Joel Schneider, that had driven 24 hours straight from Los Angeles to make the delivery. Most of the donations were already distributed by the time I arrived at 12:30 pm so I had a chance to speak to them. Although both were Dodgers fans we have nothing but love for them! Don said that he would like to have a more complete list of things that people actually need here in Houston, "Things like towels and sheets" was my answer. He also said with a more complete list it will be easier for them to get what we need and have it here in a more timely fashion. If there is something you have seen firsthand that people need, please let Eileen Know so that she can add it to the list.

Bob claimed that to look at him someone would never know that he has a heart of Gold, but all I saw a great guy with nothing but love in his heart.

The donations were in part donated by celebrities such as Majic Johnson, John Travolta and a few more that people would recognize and a large list of 62 Church’s and Organizations that sponsored the truck, but the true glory goes to God who made this happen for us and blessed the people of Houston with this delivery.

A huge thank you goes to Dr. Mabel John and her entire crew who made this happen and of course Eileen and Ilissa Without you this never would have taken place and we owe you a huge debt of gratitude.

They want to show us love.

The Bible tells us to “Give and it shall be given to us” and Matthew 25:31-37, Jesus said. “I was hungry, Thirsty, a stranger and you took me in, “I was Naked” and you gave me clothes, Verse 37 says, “Master, when did we see you in these ways”. Jesus stated “If you did it on my least ones, you did it on me”

Thank you to the people of Los Angeles. We are eternally grateful for your blessings.

Message from the President

Greetings Floral Family,

Well, cooler weather is here finally. I am hoping that we actually have a fall this year. I know, I know this is Texas we don't have seasons, but one can hope right. October has been a busy month. We had the awesome Christmas open house and program at Taylor with Tom Bowling. Then the Bayou City Art Festival downtown. I want to send a big shout out to my students at The Kirk Lewis Career and Technical High School in Pasadena for helping me get the centerpieces done for the festival. They did an awesome job following my lead and creating 14 beautiful fall centerpieces to be used in the VIP tent area for the two day event. The festival committees were so pleased with the flowers and are looking forward to even more participation next year. It was a great way to get Allied back in the public eye and let them know, there are still local florists out there.

We are looking forward to another great time in November at the Top Designer event. I hope that all of you will plan on attending this great competition. It is fun to watch but also a very educational program. Make plans to attend as Greenleaf hosts us again In November. Several of our members have been busy this past couple of months out in the community presenting programs, judging competitions and working to bring back a greater awareness of the local shops. Thank you to each of you who are working so hard to make Houston area florists shine our brightest light ever from our great city. There are several opportunities for you to get involved with Allied in the near future. If you have an interest in helping in any capacity, please contact myself or any of the board members and we will find a place for you to be useful. Allied is proving to be a strong force and with a little bit of work, we will see it continue to grow and become even more prominent than ever before. Thank you to our great board of directors for your tireless efforts in helping make this year a success. I look forward to many more wonderful programs and times together. To all of you, thank you for being a part of our organization and making what we do possible, Can't wait to see you all in November.

As always Keep Bloomin. Go out and make something beautiful today.

Alan Masters AIFD, CFD
