Allied Florists of Houston

Allied Florists of Houston has been "Alive With Possibilities" for the floral industry during the year 2000-2001.

Allied Florists of Houston was chosen by the Flower Promotion Organization (FPO) as one of five cities in the United States to participate in a national advertising campaign to promote the sale of cut flowers. AFH went the extra mile by installing thirty billboards to reinforce the promotion. Because of AFH's strong support of the Flowers...Alive with Possibilities promotion, FPO decided to extend the campaign in Houston for several more years.

AFH and it's members participated in several pubic shows. AFH sponsored the Houston Cup Competition in a public venue at Houston's Town and Country Shopping  Mall. Several AFH members were asked to help with the Bush Inauguration in Washington DC. The contribution of the floral industry was well publicized. AFH worked hard to make each memorable event even more memorable through the beauty of flowers.

Through both press releases and correspondence regarding negative press, AFH continued to keep the floral industry portrayed in a positive light.

In our eight monthly meetings we have been very fortunate, though the generosity of our wholesalers, to bring outstanding educational programs to further support our floral industry.

As a special tribute to our generous vendors, we were able to offer two $750 scholarships in addition to the Wayne and Mabel Fisher Scholarship and the Allied Florists of Houston Scholarship given annually through the Texas Floral Endowment.

AFH provided the bus to take TSFA participants to the Legislative Action Day in Austin, Texas. The bus also brought several AFH members to and from the event.

Several AFH members participated in both the Texas Master Florist retreat in College Station and  the TMFA retreat in New Braunfels, both presented by the Texas State Florists Association. AFH was responsible for bringing the three hands-on classes to Houston so that local florists could work towards their floral certification.

One of the features of our monthly  magazine is to bring up to date floral industry news to our over 300 members.

Allied Florists of Houston is the most giving group of people. We have kept the giving spirit "Alive With Possibilities" with several worthy service projects. AFH members have shared their hearts, pocketbooks, and talents with many  others.

We have participated in the collection of money and food for the Stone Soup Pantry of the AIDS Foundation of Houston, the collection of toys and money for the Red Ribbon Toy Drive for Children with AIDS, delivered over 700 hundred arrangements to local hospitals after the TSFA convention in Houston, given flowers honoring volunteers of Houston Area Women's Center, given money to honor the memory of Steve Hopkins, a firefighter and avid AFH supporter and participated in a fund raiser benefiting the Texas Children's Hospital Pediatric AIDS Division.

Our spirit continues to be "Alive With Possibilities"...helping our members, our  floral industry and our community.
