Complementary colors: Colors that are directly opposite each other on the color wheel, such as red and green, blue and orange, and violet and yellow.

Split Complementary: One color plus the two colors that are on either side of its complement on the color wheel. For example, the complement of orange is blue, and the two colors on either side of blue are blue-green and blue-violet.

Over 100 AFH members were treated to an incredible educational program based on the color wheel. Those in attendance were asked to consider perceptions and opinions regarding color.

What does it make you feel?

What does it represent?

RED: power, danger, passion
PINK: regal, spiritual
ORANGE: warm, vital
YELLOW: cheerful, energy, light
GREEN: fresh, vibrant
BLUE: peaceful
PURPLE: creative

Analogous colors: Colors that are next to each other on the color wheel and are closely related. For example, blue, blue-green, and green all have the color blue in common.

Monochromatic: Consisting of a single color or hue. Sometimes includes its tints and shades of that single color.

Achromatic: Color having no chroma -
black, white and grays made by mixing black and white.
