Touchdown! Generation
“Y” ~ Presented by Patricia
Gomez
Article by Courtney Stewart
July 29, 2007 - In her rookie, Homecoming Mum performance, “Huddle Up”
(hosted by Southern Floral) Patricia Gomez AIFD, kicked off the game
with an
impressive hands-on workshop and wrapped it up with the Creative Mum
Show. All
players had the opportunity to learn the tricks and skills needed to
successfully put together a lasting and creative mum for today's
Generation
“Y”.
Patricia displayed several different
styles of mums, many of
them were combined with multiple products to give that total WOW factor
look
that Generation “Y” is wanting. Not only did Patricia give valuable
tips on the
How To’s but also gave several suggestions for reaching, connecting and
selling
to Generation “Y”.
First, it is important that you name
your football mum
collection. Jazz it up, give the product “Y” appeal.
“Y”, have these specialty customers chosen your shop
and your
product versus the product made available to them on the internet.
Offer a
“Rock Star” or “Quarterback Superstar” mum or give that band member a
“Half-Time” creation with all the bells and whistles. Be creative in
selecting
embellishments, the more you embellish the more money you can ask for
your
creations. For example, use a piece of black cardboard behind an open
silver-star
and see the major transformation. Also check out the bling on your
local
wholesaler's corsage isle, there you will find many ideas to make your
creations pop. What a great way to add pizzazz to your mum collection!
Secondly, if you are marketing to a
high maintenance
cheerleader or drill team member offer high maintenance product,
specialize
their mums! These young teenagers are
on your playing turf tell them what they want! If you are not skilled
in this
area of selling to a younger generation hire someone who is. You have to get on the mentality level of this
younger generation to exceed mum sales of the past.
Thirdly, for all the mum makers in
your shop… Hide All
Mechanics! It is so very important to
this “Y” Generation as well as moms, that all staples, glue, and pipe
cleaners
are concealed. You do not want
complaints about the product you sold damaging expensive clothing. Not
to mention,
a well finished mum makes for a better sale!
Most importantly, never let a mum go
out of your store
naked. So you ask, what am I talking about? Name recognition. Make sure
you put
your shop label on the back of every finished mum that leaves your
store. This
can only guarantee recurring sales for years to come.
