Allied Florists of Houston Scholarships

AFH SCHOLARSHIP

The scholarship is awarded to the highest scoring applicant who is a member in good standing in the Allied Florists of Houston.  The recipient of the scholarships must utilize the scholarships within two years of the award.

VENDOR APPRECIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Each year the Allied Florists of Houston awards scholarships in honor of our wholesale members' support and participation in our organization. The scholarship is awarded to the highest scoring applicant who is a member in good standing in the Allied Florists of Houston or works for a member in good standing in the Allied Florists of Houston. The recipient of the scholarships must utilize the scholarships within two years of the award.

The following floral scholarships are also sponsored by the Allied Florists of Houston through the Texas Floral Endowment.  These scholarships are awarded annually at the Texas State Florists Association convention.  Visit www.tsfa.org to download scholarship applications.

Wayne and Mabel Fisher Scholarship
The year 2008 Allied Florists of Houston Scholarship in memory of Wayne & Mabel Fisher has been established in the amount of $500. This scholarship may be used at any accredited floral design school, state association credentialed class, community, junior college, university level or attendance at a regional, state or national floral industry convention.  Priority will be given to applicants entering TSFA’s TMF/TMFA program.  The scholarship will be awarded to the highest scoring applicant who is a member in good standing in the Allied Florists of Houston.  Applicants who are also members in Texas State Florists Association will be given priority. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize the scholarship within two years of the award. There are no other restrictions.

LaVon Bankhead AAF AIFD PFCI TMFA Scholarship
The year 2008 Allied Florists of Houston Scholarship in honor of LaVon Bankhead AAF AIFD PFCI TMFA has been established in the amount of $500. This scholarship may only be used to attend the PFCI commentating class.  Should a qualified applicant not apply to pursue PFCI credentials, an applicant pursuing AIFD credentials may be considered.  The scholarship will be awarded to the highest scoring applicant who is a member in good standing in the Allied Florists of Houston.  Applicants who are also members in Texas State Florists Association will be given priority. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize the scholarship within two years of the award. There are no other restrictions.

Lewis "Peanuts" Rushing AAF TMF Memorial Scholarship
The 2007 Lewis “Peanuts” Rushing Memorial Scholarship has been established in the amount of $500 annually to be given by “Peanuts” wife, Frankie Rushing and daughter, Shari Sandlin AAF TMFA. The scholarship may be used for Texas State Florists’ Association’s Texas Certified Florist Program or to obtain an Advanced TMF Certification. The applicant must be a Texas resident with preference to an Allied Florist of Houston member or to an individual who is employed in an AFH member shop. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize within two years of award. There are no other restrictions.

Texas Floral Endowment Scholarship honoring TFE founding members Ken Freytag and Lynn Lary McLean AAF AIFD PFCI TMF
The 2007 Texas Floral Endowment Scholarship honoring the Texas Floral Endowment’s Founding members Ken Freytag and Lynn Lary McLean AAF AIFD PFCI TMF has been established in the amount of $500 and will be offered in 2007 in appreciation of their dedication to continuing floral education. This scholarship may be used at any accredited floral design school, state association credentialed class, community, junior college, university level or attendance at a regional, state or national floral industry convention. The applicant must be a Texas Resident. The recipient of this scholarship must utilize scholarship within two years of the award. There are no other restrictions.

Southern Floral Company's 80th Anniversary Scholarship honoring Mr. Robert Weatherford, Sr.
In Honor of Southern Floral Company's chairman, Robert Weatherford, Sr., and to celebrate Southern's 80th year in business, a 2007 scholarship was established in the amount of $500. AFH's Renee Carpenter TMFA of Memorial City Florist was awarded this scholarship.

Greenleaf Wholesale Florist of Texas Scholarship
The 2007 Greenleaf Wholesale Florist of Texas scholarship has been established in the amount of $1,000.00. This scholarship to attend a community, junior college or university has been created to assist 1) a retail florist’s family member or 2) a graduating high school student pursuing a career in the floral industry. Qualification will be based 50% on GPA and 50% on the subject essay of “Why This Scholarship Is Important To Me.” The applicant must be a Texas Resident. Scholarship must be utilized within two years of the award.  Please include GPA, Subject Essay, Parent (s) Name and retail floral business (if a family member is in retail floral business), address and phone number.
